Working around distractions is easier to do for some dogs than others. The key to training a dog to do anything anywhere is all about generalizing behaviors and proofing with distractions.
This is the first episode in a series of videos on building focus around distractions. While it may seem like the exercise shown here is quite simple, it must not be underestimated. Having a solid foundation and starting small is often overlooked in dog training. Just like building a big structure, having a solid stable base is critical to avoid failures later on.

I’m quite proud of Loke, he’s really confident. He’s at dog day care when I’m working and he’s impressing everyone there since he’s so calm around all the other dogs and people he don’t know that well. Not nervous at all. =)

I just wanted to know if I can train my outside dog named Daisy tricks if she is 6… She’s currently shy around other people except me and she is a mix dog between a GSD, Bloodhound, and Rottweiler (I think) Any thing is greatly appreciated! Thanks and please no rude comments.

This is almost everything Loke knows so far. =) Still using treats pretty often to keep him interested, but we’re rising criteria. His “sit pretty” is still rather unbalanced, but I guess that’s ok when you’re a puppy. ;P I am clicking him, even if you can’t hear it.

As a professional trainer, I do not support Cesar Millan. His tactics are extremely outdated and not very well respected in the training world. I suggest you return those books and get anything written by Dr. Ian Dunbar. Also visit his website www.dogstardaily.com. He is the pioneer of positive reinforcement training, which is where the professional training world is right now. It is a much easier and successful way of training.
