Well, it depends. Because I trained my dog to use puppy pads from a very early age. At first my dogs wouldnt pee on the pads, but then I found this spray that as a smell, that dogs are attracted to when they need to use the bathroom. I then sprayed this spray all over the puppy pads. Now, they always use the bathroom on the puppy pads. click me

I tried the box with my dog, no luck. If there is a special place they like to go, ie.. a rug etc.. put the pad on top of it. Set them on it and let them smell it, when you know they need to go set them on it and praise them when they go.

I am training a 7 week old pup right now and there is no paper or pads or litter boxes in my home-(except for the cats of course) you are setting yourself up to have to retrain them later!!

Look up ‘crate training’ (I only crate my dog for the first few months of their in home training) for use as a house breaking tool.

Or just try this, 10 min after they eat- go outside.
Immediately after they wake up – go outside.
After 2 hrs of awake time and yet no signs of ‘needing’ to go out – go outside. (that is if you have a pup who will need to go more often)
When there is an accident, make a loud noise to stop them from finishing and scoop him/her up and go outside, clean it up when you come back in.
And when s/he changes behaviour and starts sniffing around – go outside!

It is much quicker and easier to teach them early that there is no right place inside to use the bathroom.

    Good Luck!

yes, litter box training will work too, but they’re harder to move when you need to move it to the door when your dog is ready to go outside……….

if she piddles in the house, wipe it up with a paper towel, and then put the towel into the litter box.

she doesn’t know what to do with it because dogs are scent oriented. if they smell piddle, then they’ll piddle in the same place. same with the poopie… pick it up and put it in the littler box. even if you have to go outside to get some she’s already made, it will still work.

try wiping up her piddle or poo with a training pad, and see if the pup will use it again….. they need to know where to go…

good luck! and yes, litter box training does work!!!
